From the artist: In my most recent charcoal piece, Duality, a solitary tree stands strong as seen through the filter of yin and yang. Being a Pisces zodiac sign as well as carrying a bipolar 1 diagnosis, my life has always been a paradox. There cannot be good without bad, just as the light can only be seen when surrounded by darkness. One cannot exist without the other and together they must cohabitate in harmony. The subject of this piece is also of great significance. I deliberately chose a tree standing tall through the winter because such as nature, we humans also go through seasons. Also like nature we possess a great strength and the resolve to continue on. There’s an old Chinese proverb that says it best “If you feel like you’re losing everything, remember, trees lose their leaves every year, yet they still stand tall and wait for better days to come.”
